New V4 "Corner Shop" site

Jules and Sharpie commissioned us to provide an ecommerce site built around their new brand identity for their delicious hot preservaments.

With a small but diverse range of jellies, chutneys, jams and marmalades Jules and Sharpie's hot preservaments needed a simple on-line store to reflect the brand identity designed by the talented people at doodlebug designs (who also did the web site design as illustrator files which we converted to html).

The original Jules and Sharpie site had a simple PDF order form that needed printing and faxing/mailing to the company, the new site provides a true on-line store. Usually we'd use V4's Emporium software to build stores but because of the size of the catalogue and new products are introduced on an annual basis we built an all new custom mini-store.

Our new small store solution called V4 Corner shop represents the variety, small product range, intimacy and high quality of service of the sellers that use it.

Using V4 Corner shop kept the project costs within budget but still provides big store functionality like the ability to search for the nearest stockist, content management for the news and events page and a mailing list sign up.

Order management and payment is handled by Google Checkout which is fully integrated into the site and further reduces the complexity of the development and therefore the costs and timescales involved.

The content management tools allow the client to edit their own events and news without getting us involved and to drive the nearest retailer page they also have ability to add, edit & delete retailers to be shown on the nearest retailer page.

DJ Empire needed a modern and powerful store to help them grow their on-line business further.

Using our in-house e-commerce solution Emporium we built their new store with many new features including:

  • Search engine friendly throughout, from the friendly urls of products, categories, brands and more to keyword and description meta-data control.

    The search engine optimisation features of Emporium have doubled the traffic to the DJ Empire site (compared to their old site), with Google indexing the new site very quickly.


  • Videos within project descriptions.
  • Vouchers, allowing them to give customers discount vouchers that can be applied on checkout.
  • The ability to create Sales and reduce a range of products by a percentage for a period of time.
  • AJAX driven basket provides immediate feedback to the customers
  • Easy administration of a catalogue of nearly 2,000 products and their categories
  • Simple easy to follow order processing tools that keep their customers informed as their order gets processed.
  • Multiple payment methods including Secpay and a finance callback.
  • Easy and comprehensive product search
  • The ability to change the majority of the text throughout the site using the administration screen's content management system.
  • Upselling of products, suggesting similar or related products to the customer.
  • Comprehensive control of shipping options including free shipping above a adjustable value, worldwide weight based delivery charges.
  • Copied and cleaned up the catalogue from their old shop into the Emporium system.

Tracking sales, expenses and commission

Neon Digital provide document management systems to businesses and educational establishments and needed a web application to manage their sales process and track the commission and expenses of their sales team.

Sales are entered in to the software using easy to use and clearly laid out screens and as the order moves through the sales process to fulfillment the system tracks the progress for them.

Commissions are allocated to the responsible sales staff and any out of pocket expenses or advances are also recorded.

The software then produces each sales person's monthly statement, detailing commission, expenses and other financial data with the total payable clearly shown along with the transactions that went into calculating the figure.

This project replaced a number of paper processes with a single easy to use application, enabling the speedy compilation of monthly statements and business management information on order status and financial data.

Year of Wellbeing, the first ever comprehensive web-based initiative designed to help you improve your wellbeing, enables you to take an on-line questionnaire, receive your personalised wellbeing score and receive tailored tips.

Launched in 2 phases the Alpro Soya - Year of Wellbeing project provides its membership with access to wellbeing information and support from other members. Comprising of a number of services including:

  • Account signup and management
  • Wellbeing Index questionnaire system
  • Tips management system
  • Membership tip generation and delivery
  • System administration site

The Social Networking parts of the application provide:

  • Messaging between members
  • Friends management
  • Profile editing and avatar upload
  • Group membership and wall posts
  • Encouragement messages
  • Wellbeing Index score report
  • Member image galleries

Phase 1
Involved us developing and integrating our code for sign up screens and contact code into the web site design. We also provided an administrative system that allows the clint to manage visitors and review a number of reports. The administration screens will provide the foundations for the planned services as they are released.

This release phase also introduced the Wellbeing Index, which collects and collates health and lifestyle related information that is used to generate both an index score and the targeted wellbeing tips that are to be sent out weekly during 2008.

Phase 2
Fully launched on New Years Day 2008 phase 2 enabled the delivery of weekly tips and the launch of the Social Networking application. The network enables members to share wellbeing tips and encourage friends they've made through the network to improve their Wellbeing Index.

In addition to the development work, we acted as and continue to provide technical liaison to the project. Taking an active role in ensuring the hosting service was configured, reliable and fully available for the sites launch.

The year of wellbeing project, which was developed for Richmond Towers Communications and Alpro Soya will continue to grow as we develop new features throughout 2008.

Remote Heating and Lighting Control

Controlling PLC based HVAC control system units in around 200 Mothercare stores across the UK, this web application increases the flexibility of the existing hardware while making the maintenance and administration of the the individual stores opening & closing schedules a simple task.

Using the AJAX technologies and an office / web based development solution, we developed an easy to use web based application that allows the client to set up lighting and heating schedules remotely.

The package includes V4's web application to modem interface, which by using AJAX real time feedback tools allows the web user to monitor the progress of any modem actions from anywhere in the world.

Reducing costs and improving quality, SQS Ontrack provides photographic evidence of works in progress and completed.

Working with the client Stanmore Quality Surfacing Ltd we've provided and continue to provide process consultancy, development and support.

This web based application provides multi-office access to job reports containing details and images transferred into the application via MMS messages from operatives mobile phones.

Highly scalable, this project continues to develop into a multi-company multi-client service application.

As part of a re-launch of their web site Haymills needed a content management system and media library to allow them to upload project details and images, news and recent project updates.

We designed, developed and commissioned the administrative and data driven front end for this high profile site.

Features such as random homepage image selection and our in-house auto-thumbnailing & cropping functions reduce the time taken to get a project live whilst reducing bandwidth usage and ensuring the highest quality images possible.

Bespoke Staff Absence Management System

Diagnostic Health Solutions provide absence management services to large organisations, around the UK. The projects goal was to provide the software tools for the administration of staff members, case management and client reporting.

Providing case management and call centre tools along with an extensive reporting system, the application is designed to be a robust large scale tool used by administrative and client users alike with the minimum of training. All areas of the web application needed to be secure and provide a full audit trail.

The service went live, on budget and on schedule, in June 2005, with many new features and services added over the last 2 years.

Worldwide electronic parts sourcing organisation, SMI Electronics, required a web site that shows their services and allowed their visitors and prospective customers to search their huge global stocks easily.

Linked via ajax functionality to SMI's in house RFQ management system, Planet Citrix also built by us, the stock search firstly confirms availability and then allows the visitor to send a RFQ/Sourcing request into their sales department for immediate action.

In addition to the stock search the site has a simple to use content management system allowing SMI to update page texts throughout the site themselves with minimal training.

To maintain a live feel to the site a live RSS feed news is also integrated into the design.

Designed deliberately as a simple, fast site, Emporium's flexibility, AJAX basket and speed of use makes this site an excellent experience for both the customer and the site's owner.

The site's administrative screens allowed the site's owner to very quickly populate the empty shop with goods and continue to manage orders and product changes simply and quickly.
